Are there any examples of firearms designed prior to 1905 which have the “WP” to the receiver and barrel in addition to the “Oval P” around the barrel? If that's so, This may signify a mail buy barrel remaining mounted with the Winchester repair service shop.
If it ended up possible to edit my earlier reply I'd change the introduction in the “Oval P” stamp to read through “not uncovered until finally 1910 or afterwards.” So the 1913 day is a wonderful match.
I Individually am not with the opinion that Winchester at any time used mail purchase barrels within the factory to accomplish or fill orders. Doing this would suggest they experienced operate fully out of regular production barrels… if that occurred regularly, someone (the shop foreman) required to be fired, or fire the person in charge of ensuring that which the assembly space employees didn't operate out of the necessary parts needed to build guns.

While there are some plausible theories introduced listed here and elsewhere we may hardly ever know the answer to the original question concerning the receiver with the two marks proven in the earlier submit. Based on other substitute barrels I have noticed which include each the WP and mail order P and a press release from the former Winchester staff that indicated they DID use some mail purchase parts when Winchester parts rebarreling rifles returned for service I think that it's a substitute receiver which was set up and proofed at Winchester along with the mail buy evidence was also extra to easily point out it wasn't the initial receiver. That is certainly just my viewpoint/guess. Hope that can help.
